Sandra Sullivan

We were very sorry to hear of the recent passing of Sandra Sullivan.

Sandra’s beloved daughter Katie, 23, a psychologist, was stabbed to death whilst on duty at a MIND rehabilitation centre in Kingston in October 1992 by a schizophrenic woman.

At the time she said her family felt they had been “thrown to the lions” after Katie’s killing. She said her family’s needs were ignored, and that lawyers treated the trial as though it was a “game”. She never wanted any other family to have to go through what her family endured.

As a result, she spent 30 years campaigning and working for bereaved families

She campaigned successfully for victims’ families and in particular for victim impact statements to be read in court.

She was awarded the MBE for services to victims of crime in 2008.

Sandra was a formidable campaigner and a great supporter of our work.

We will miss her and are proud of her pioneering legacy.

  1. It is with great sadness to hear of the death of Sandra. Founder of Victims Voice / Justice For Victims, I am totally indebted to all the help and support she ( and the late, Christine Hurst) gave me, particularly in the early months of my own beloved Sister’s ‘disappearance’ ( presumed murdered.) From the meetings at ‘The Union Jack’ club, to the ‘Remembrance Stone’ in Christchurch Gardens, to the annual ‘Christmas Memorial Services’ at St Martins in the Fields church, I will always be totally indebted to her. God rest her soul.
